To call Smoking Popes merely pop-punk would be a grotesque disservice -- they've been excelling at it for years. The problem is the image such a description (or genre name) conjures: a mediocre group who plays a fifth as well as the bands who founded punk in the '70s, with lyrics that are dim-witted, simplistic, dull, or immature, and tunes that are stiff, forced, and/or plain.

I think the smoking popes are a very good band. Destination Failure is a good CD. "pretty pathetic" is and always will be one of my favorite songs. "Star Struck One" is also very good. I like how the smoking popes have their own style and they sing from the heart. This cd is definately worth the quepifolkfenkersdigeslitopssipekas.coinfos:

Destination Failure is the third album by the Chicago-based pop punk band the Smoking Popes, released August 26, by Capitol Records. It was their second, and final, album for Capitol and their last before their nearly seven-year hiatus; their covers album The Party's Over was rejected by Capitol and the Smoking Popes disbanded in December , reuniting in November to record At Metro. Their next release, Destination Failure (), strained the band's relationship with Capitol when the label couldn't find a lead single to appease the new crowd they'd gained in the underground pop-punk scene. Within the Smoking Popes, Josh Caterer found the band's music to be incongruent with his newfound Christian beliefs. This combination forced Josh to publicly announce the band's breakup.
